Cambodia Gambling Halls
October 16th, 2023 by Anastasia

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
