There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is banned. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that contains a number of comforts on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
